It is with a heavy heart and many tears that the family of Roger Glenn Hightower announces his passing. He left us on January 25th, 2023, from a place he treasured, the Capitol City Conservation Club at the Troy Ave location. This is where he lived and worked his dream job as a caretaker for the property. His family would also like to extend its deepest gratitude to the club for allowing Roger to remain where he loved being while battling cancer.
Roger worked many years as a press operator for Jenn Air before they moved production south of the border. He then went on to work in a variety of places including Crossroads and Ray’s trash service before landing at Capitol City. His days at Capitol City included talking with many of the club members who shared the same past times he did, hunting and fishing. Roger did not know a stranger, and up to his final days he was still walking up to people introducing himself, sharing compliments and stories, and of course showing off the muscles he worked hard to build.
Roger was born as the youngest son, and one of ten children to Charles ‘Noel’ Hightower, and Mabel (Higginbotham) Hightower in Bowling Green, Kentucky on August 24th, 1952. He was preceded in death by brothers Charles Hightower, Gary Hightower, Jim Hightower, and sister Leigh (Ione) DeNoon. Surviving siblings include Faye Linder, William Hightower, Deborah Ford, Allen (Ab) Hightower, and Donna West.
Roger was married for over 20 years before separating from his wife, this union produced two children who are among those who mourn his loss. His children include Kristi Beeson and Niki Brinker. Roger was like a second father to their spouses, Richard Beeson and Randy Brinker who will also greatly miss him. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were a source of pride to Roger. Roger could and would tell you stories about the grandkids for hours on end. The grandchildren included James Hightower, Andrew Beeson, Linzey Welsh, Nathan Beeson and Lessly Welsh. Marriage brought an additional grandchild, Autumn Brinker. Great grandchildren who you could often hear squeal and laugh in Roger’s presence include Oliver, Ellie, Benjamin and Grayson.
With family Roger was always loving, and proud of his families’ accomplishments, going to football games, dance recitals, and graduations. We were all blessed to have these cherished memories to keep with us. For most of his life Roger would share funny sayings that he picked up from his own mother and father, and his daughters would like everyone to know he was finer than frog hair all the way to the end.
If you would like to share in the celebration of life for the man who was never all right because he was always half left please join us at the Capitol City Conservation Club’s Johnson County Farm Location. The celebration will take place on Saturday, February 4th, 2023 at 1:00pm. Address 3717 W. State Road 44, Franklin, IN. In lieu of flowers the family is asking that we celebrate in true Hightower tradition, and are having a pitch in style dinner, if you made something that Roger loved to eat, and chances are good you did, please bring some to share.
