Michael “Mikey” Stephen Mahoney

January 8, 1980 - July 28, 2022

Michael “Mikey” Stephen Mahoney, 42, of Indianapolis passed away suddenly on July 28th, 2022. He was born on January 8, 1980, to Stephen and Mary Ann (Snell) Mahoney.

Mike was a graduate of Roncalli High School, class of 1998. He attended IU Bloomington where he studied Kinesiology and Sports Communication and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 2002. He was on the Dean’s List and Honor Roll. In 2006, he attended Thomas Cooley Law School where he earned his Doctor of JurisPrudence (J.D.) in 2009. He graduated Cum Laude and was on the Dean’s List, Honor Roll and was Associate Editor of Thomas Cooley Law Review. He was currently working as a Land Manager at Lehigh Hanson. Mike was a loving husband and father and always supporting his children in all the sports they played. He was either on the field helping, in the stands cheering or sitting on a bucket catching for his daughter while she was throwing fastballs to him. When he wasn’t cheering on his children you would find him inside watching college basketball, college softball, the NBA, NFL or watching old reruns of the Indianapolis 500. If he wasn’t inside watching sports, you could find him outside grilling ribs, smoking a brisket or pork butt. He loved to grill for his family and friends. Everything Mikey did, he always had a big smile on his face.

Mike is survived by his wife Dawn Mahoney; sons Dylan and Logan Mahoney and daughter Mallory Mahoney; parents Stephen and Mary Ann Mahoney; brothers Patrick (Kaoru Miyazak) Mahoney; Timothy (Holli) Mahoney; Daniel (Kavita) Mahoney; nephews Connor and Killian Mahoney; niece Carrigan Mahoney; mother-in-law Barbara Fall; sister-in-law Angela (Rusty) Elliott; niece Madison Fall; great nephew Kai Powell. Mike is also preceded in death by his father-in-law Roy Fall.

Visitation for Family and Friends will be held Monday, August 8, 2022, at 10:00 am with a full mass starting at 11:00 am at St. Roch Catholic Church 3600 S. Pennsylvania Street, Indianapolis, IN 46227.

Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022, from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm at St. Roch Catholic School Gymnasium 3603 S. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46227.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Heart Association in Mike’s honor. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Cremation Society of Indiana, 4115 Shelby Street.

Mikey, as your mother and father you have left us with 42 years of memories. We are grateful that you shared your love and smiles so freely. It’s hard to imagine our lives without you here, Our faith helps us realize that you have not left but you have moved to a better place. You have sent us many signs that you are happy in your heavenly home. Please keep sending us those signs because they really help us deal with our sadness and pain. Your young children especially need to hear from you. Enjoy good times with Uncles Maury and Joe, cousins Mikey, Jamie and Jim. Until we meet again May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

Mike was a loving husband and father. We miss him very much.

Although we did not share the pleasure of having known Mikey, my wife Nancy and I can see what a wonderful life he led, filled with accomplishments and joy. His family and friends were fortunate to experience the presence of such a special human, who enriched those with whom he engaged. Having known his parents Steve and Mary Ann since forever, we understand where he received the gifts of personality and character which were the essence of his being. His life was a testament to their love, as well as that of his dear wife Dawn and children Dylan, Logan and Mallory. May he dwell in eternal peace with the Lord. Perry and Nancy Adair

I can only smile remembering when Mike was trying to get into law school and asked for a reference letter...of course I said. When he got in...he smiled really big and said.."You made me look really good .I got in°°"...we laughed together...see you on the other side Mike?

I only got to be around Mikey once a year, but over nearly a 40 year span. When we reached Indy from Minneapolis or South Dakota, seeing the growth and changes in those Mahoney boys was an added highlight to Indy 500 weekend. I can easily picture Mikey's impish grin and friendly face. I can hear the giggle, the tone of his voice, the 100% authentic Hoosier inflections. He made us feel so welcome. He tried so hard at everything. Bless Mikey.
