Lawrence “Larry” Anderson
The Man! The Myth! The Legend!
After a long and courageous fight with a relentless disease, Lawrence Louis Anderson, age 68, died peacefully at home on February 26, 2023, surrounded by his loving and devoted wife and family.
“Big LA” loved the water, anything chocolate, only comfortable clothes, Harley Road trips, pizza buffets, playing “Call of Duty”, eating beef (especially prime rib) and Coors Light beer.
Activities he enjoyed included traveling with his wife (especially to beach locations), boating/water skiing, board games with his family, relaxing in his backyard with a cigar, going to the gun range, and working in his beautiful, manicured yard.
Weekly lottery tickets for all the lotto’s were a must!
Larry hated vegetables, hypocrites and discussing either politics or religion. He was a thrill seeker and enjoyed motorcycle rides, parasailing, and even parachuting by himself. “Smoke on the Water” was his favorite song.
Blessed with beautiful blue eyes, he looked like the Marlboro Man and had an infectious smile. This big powerful guy, however, loved to hold his canine Chihuahua babies, Charlie, and Lucy.
Born March 30, 1954, Larry grew up on the northeast side of Indianapolis in a neighborhood full of kids at 35th and Audubon Road. He attended Saint Andrew grade school near 38th and Sherman Drive and graduated from the all-boys downtown Cathedral High School in 1972. Larry was an expert pipefitter by trade. He worked 43 years and retired from Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 440. There wasn’t a job he would turn down. He has been described as a perfectionist with his work and welding.
Larry worked hard and played hard! Although quite thrifty (would bring cheese from home and place on Steak’n Shake hamburgers to save $1.50!) He wouldn’t hesitate to help someone in need!
Always loving life and family, caring, and looking out for others, his daughter Angie summed him up beautifully: “He has always had a strong and LOUD external image, and very opinionated, but he was a softie at heart and would do anything for anyone!”
His father fought on two U.S. Navy Destroyers in World War II. One was shot out from under him! Patriotic, Larry would never let the American flag touch the ground.
He is preceded in death by his wonderful parents, Harold, and Anne Anderson. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Yvette (THE love of his life), daughter Angie Kessinger, grandchildren Darien and Anyia and sister Karen Anderson (Bud Robertson).
Everyone who remembers him is asked to celebrate Larry’s life in their own way. Raising a glass of their favorite drink in his memory would be quite appropriate. Larry would hope that you will do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness, for someone less fortunate, in his name.
His Celebration of Life (Larry would want you to dress comfortably, casually and come as you are) will take place on:
Wednesday, March 8, 2023, from 6:30pm-9pm
Valle Vista Golf and Conference Center
755 E Main Street
