As a boy growing up in Greenfield, Indiana, Jesse‘s childhood was full of climbing trees, foot races, skipping rocks, carving his name into trees with his pocket knife, playing in the water at the park, riding bikes and performing rad tricks. Along with one of his favorite treats, which were his many trips to Brad’s gas station for a soda or candy bar as a reward for picking up Mom and Dad’s cigarettes. He loved lifting weights or anyone younger than him to show his strength.
Jesse was a staunch protector of his people which sometimes led to fighting with neighborhood kids, but only if they deserved it, and always coming out victorious. He was full of energy and wanderlust, and would lead his little brother and cousins around town on various missions and spontaneous adventures. He wasn’t what standard academia would consider a great student, but was profoundly street-smart even as a youngster. He loved music, cars, “shooting the shit” with family and friends and was a jack of all trades.
Jesse, although being raised in a small town his whole life, never had fear of the unknown. He was a friend to all he met, as long as you were good people he didn’t care about race, religious beliefs or even if you had bad taste in music. He had a heart of gold, and was always there for his family who he cherished and put above all else. He was beloved by his parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles, cousins and friends and will be missed beyond what any words can convey. Rest in heavenly peace, Jesse Wayne.
There was never a dull moment when you were around Jesse, his imagination, creativity, and drive separated him from most. One of his favorite things to say was that no matter if it was cooking a meal, or hammering a nail in he was determined in everything he did to “not let it whoop him” he would say. One of the most hard working, dedicated, entertaining people you could ever be around. If you ever got the chance to embrace how great of a person Jesse was at heart, please cherish that forever with us. He truly was one of a kind, the type that would take the shirt off his back for anyone in a heart beat.
Mr. Fix it or rig it as he would say, one of the most hardworking men we have ever grown to know. Just like his father Lester and brother Tommy he would out work every single one of you., “Think I wont?” I can hear him saying it now with that contagious smile and laugh that would brighten up any room or situation. He truly was a man of his word, and what he said, he meant. The stories are endless and the memories are forever, if one thing is for sure Jesse Wayne will be remembered for eternity and dearly missed.
He is proceeded in death by his father, Lester Cox; mother, Dee Cox; younger brother, Thomas “Tommy” Wayne Cox; Aunt Joyce Butler; his maternal grandparents, Bryan and Ruby Shamblin, William Butler; and paternal grandmother, Ruby Fonseca.
He is survived by his stepmother, Tonya Cox; brother Seth Cox; stepsister, Amanda Franklin; step brother Shane Seacott; as well as his nephew, aunts and many cousins.
His memorial will be announced at a later date.
