Biniam (Benyam) Maust was born in Ethiopia in January 1994 and joined the Maust family in September of 1995. As he grew up, he carried a deep longing to meet his birth family but did not find a way to realize that dream.
Biniam grew up in Indianapolis and went to School #56 and Herron High School. He loved soccer and played it at Tab, at Herron, and with friends. After graduating from high school, he coached younger players and avidly watched the Indy Eleven and the World Cup. He worked for ten years at Pita Pit and Punch Burger in downtown Indianapolis. He knew his regular customers and provided service with a smile; he had lasting friendships with his co-workers.
Biniam loved to travel. In addition to family trips to France, Mexico, Egypt, and Ethiopia, he traveled to Europe and Egypt with sibs and friends as a young adult. He liked to joke in person and on social media. He was never too grown up to play with his younger cousins and nieces and nephews, especially if it involved kicking a ball around, and they have happy memories of playing with him.
Biniam was 29 years old when he unexpectedly died at home on May 21, 2023.
Biniam is survived by his parents Rod and Martha Yoder Maust, siblings Rachel (Rolando Urquizo), Reuben (Katy Maust), Ruth (Sudhanshu Shekhar), nieces and nephews Sydney, Leo, Nuria, and Emmanuel, and many caring friends and relatives.
Donations may be made to Tab Recreation https://www.tabrecreation.org/Default.aspx?tabid=590115 where Biniam got his first taste of playing soccer.
