Anique (Sprague) Kline, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away April 23rd, 2024. Anique was born June 25th, 1946, in Paris, France to the late Kenneth and Renee Sprague. She married Wayne Kline on August 21st, 1965, in State College, PA after meeting Wayne in Ingrandes, France. Wayne was serving in the Army at that time under Anique’s father, Kenneth, who was Wayne’s 1st Sergeant. Being an “Army Brat”, Anique lived in many places between France and the United States during her childhood. In October of 1948, the Army relocated her father and family to Indianapolis, IN. During the time they lived in Indianapolis, albeit at a young age, Anique was able to speak French and English to the point that she would translate for her mom who spoke only French and very little English at the time. After moving back to France, Anique graduated in June 1964 from Poitiers American High School located in Poitiers, France. She was active in the French Club, the school newspaper, and was offered a scholarship to the Sorbonne University in Paris. After graduation newspaper and was offered a scholarship to the Sorbonne University in Paris. After graduation United States in 1965, married Wayne, and then resided in Elmira, New York. In 1966 she and Wayne were blessed with a daughter Michelle, and then in 1969 along came another blessing, a son Michael. In 1972 Wayne took a position with Eli Lilly and Co. and moved to Southport, IN. In 1974, the family moved to Indianapolis (Franklin Township), IN. They both resided in Franklin Twp. until their passing. Anique started working at the Atheneum German Club in the bingo hall where she eventually became the manager thereof working alongside her sisters’ Renee, Cathy, and Sandy for many years. After raising the children and retirement, her and Wayne travelled extensively throughout the world while splitting time between Florida and Indianapolis during the winter months until Wayne’s passing in 2016. To keep herself occupied after Wayne’s passing, she took a position with Kroger Grocery at their Thompson Rd. location starting in 2017. While there, she became friends with many of her co-workers as well as some of the customers she served. She resigned her position with Kroger in July of 2022.
In September of 2022, Anique, who was in the early stages of starting her journey struggling with Alzheimer’s, along with her daughter Michelle and Michelle’s husband Ray, both of whom unselfishly decided to quit their jobs in Indianapolis, moved to Bradenton, FL. The hope was that Anique could spend time doing what she loved to do, being on the beach. It was the perfect plan but unfortunately the disease progressed to the point they had to return to Indianapolis in July of 2023 where Anique spent her remaining days with all of us who loved her dearly. Anique loved her family and the love she gave back to all of us cannot be expressed in words. She will be missed.
Anique is survived by her daughter, Michelle (Ray) Axsom, grandson Joshua Rakosky, granddaughter Angela (Omar Ahuatl) Axsom, great grandson Santino, brother Ken (Ginger) Sprague, sisters’ Renee (Gordon Cocke) Donovan, Cathy (Scott) Donovan, Sandy (Walt) Smith and ten nieces/nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, son Michael, and parents, Kenneth, and Renee.
