Adrian Lamar Riley

I don’t have much to say except that no matter how much time went between Adrian and I talking , when we picked back up it was right back to our conversation. Feels like we talked for decades about family , life , football and of course Public Enemy. He came by my house about two weeks before his transition and he shared how proud he was of Brandon , how Lamar was is Ace and how his children and he were adjusting well. Unbeknownst to me , he was using our last conversation to show appreciation for the simple things in life….in true Adrian fashion. A simple, appreciative , hard working , loyal friend for life! His candor , humor and realness is irreplaceable and he Will be missed.

It has taken me a minute to come here and say anything. I wanted my words to have meaning. By delaying a post, I might finally wake up from what I still wish was a dream. All of the cliché sayings are real. I do feel like I’m dreaming. I wish this was a dream. If I could have one more conversation. If I could hear his laugh as I tickle his clavicle. If I could ask him why he did something, and see that ‘shy brother’ look from the Five Heartbeats, just ONE. MORE. TIME!!! If I could hear him say, “Alicia this, or Alicia that!” He LOVED HIM SOME ALICIA. IYKYK He loved his children and was so proud of all of them. And Brandon! Oh Brandon! He was so proud of the man you have become! I’m sure he told you, but if he didn’t, I’m telling you, HE WAS!!! I feel this loss deep down in my soul! I can only imagine what it’s like for a mother, four children, an only sibling and best friend/brother/cousin - Lamar! I always tell other people to let the memories of their loved ones sustain them when they miss them the most.
