Isaias Perez Torres passed away peacefully holding the hands of his daughter and granddaughter on Wednesday, December 18th, at his daughter’s home in Charlottesville, IN. He was born on June 28, 1938 to Inoncensio Torres and Luisa Perez Torres of Olmito, Texas.
Isaias was a resident of Port Isabel, Texas (in the winter) and Cicero, Indiana (in the summer) where he lived with his life partner of 31 years, Norma Swinford. Isaias and Norma lived a very active life- they loved to attend dances with their friends and play doubles tennis together. In fact, Isaias at 80 years of age, still played tennis until his diagnosis of bladder cancer a year and a half ago.
Isaias retired as a Sergeant Major in the Army after 27 years of service, which included tours in the Korean War and Vietnam. He was also the head of race relations at the Pentagon.
Isaias will be remembered by his family as a witty but stern, logical, and grounded man. He always voiced how proud of his family he was, and made sure everyone was well taken care of. Despite his diagnosis, he never complained and maintained a positive outlook on life throughout his time left, full of humor and love.
Isaias is preceded in death by his parents, Inoncensio Torres and Luisa Perez Torres, and his daughter Maria Torres. Isaias is survived by his life partner Norma Swinford; sister, Jesusita (Tute) Graybill; brother, Armando Torres; daughter, Carrie Torres; Norma’s sons, Steve Swinford (Michelle; children, Sean and Jordan) and Mike Swinford; grandchildren, Jared Marshall (Christina), Lana Mager (Matt), Alora Marshall, Renee Mayo (Chris), Eric Linaberry, and 7 great grandchildren.
Isaias’s wishes were to be cremated and the family will hold a private service.
