Wayne T. Smith, 89 of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away November 10,2021 of natural causes. Wayne was born on January 23, 1932. He was proud to serve as a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1951-1954 during the Korean war. His career as a truck driver spanned over 30 years and earned him the 1981 IMTA truck driver of the year award as well as the 1981 safe driver award. He retired in 1986. He was a Yankees fan, loved to play softball, go fishing, playing euchre, poker and “whoa”. He was dedicated to helping the Indiana homeless with food, clothing and other donations. Wayne was known as the ” Candyman” by his health and hospital community and has been referred to as “the greatest player to ever play the game”. He will be forever loved and greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife Betty R. Smith (Tussey), his Stepson Carl White, his six daughters Rebecca, Kathy, Debra, Karen, Margaret and Mildred Smith, as well as 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Orville and mother Maggie Smith, his two sisters and four brothers, his first wife Jessie Jo Smith (Gentry), his son Daniel J. Smith and his grandson Joseph T. Birtchman.
