Johanna L Lakin-Thomas, 62, died peacefully on October 10, 2021. Johanna was the oldest child of Elmer C and Carolyn A (Pedlow) Lakin, who preceded her in death. Johanna was an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Indianapolis where she was the first wheelchair bound lector.
As a child, she attended St Philip Neri and Our Lady of Lourdes Grade Schools. She graduated from Scecina Memorial High School in 1977.She also received a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education through St Mary of the Woods WED program.
Throughout her adult life, she held many positions including substitute teaching, bookkeeping and paralegal. Her favorite position, however, was being a longtime volunteer for The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis in the Dinosphere.
Johanna is survived by her husband David L. Thomas, her siblings Mary E Lakin, James R. Lakin, Joseph Lakin and her beloved canine Sammy. She will be deeply missed by everyone she touched; especially her goddaughter Jessica Mitchell, Jessica’s daughter Allysia Mitchell, her cousin Shelby Pope and Shelby’s daughter Skye Simon.
