Philip Wheatley Jones II, 71, passed away Friday, November 13, 2020 at his home in Indianapolis surrounded by family. He was born in Richmond, Indiana to Philip W. Jones, I and Eleanor J. (Nungesser) George on November 26, 1948.
Philip attended Greenwood High School, where he received his diploma. After high school, he joined the Navy as a CB during the Vietnam War.
He had a passion for all things motor sports. His passion began at 7 years old selling Speed Sports News at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. His love of the sport grew with this age, owning and racing, Sprint Cars throughout the years. If Philip wasn’t working or spending time with his family, you were sure to find him at the race track.
Philip loved to socialize. He would make friends everywhere he went and had a story to tell that was guaranteed to put a smile on your face (no matter how inappropriate it might have been).
Philip is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Jacqueline L. (Snarr) Jones; siblings, Jim (Lynn) Fornoff and Steve (Shelby) George; daughter, Jennifer (Gary) Whobrey; and son, Philip (Natalie) Jones. He was a very proud grandpa to four grandsons, Gary and Gavin Whobrey and Tripp and Wyatt Jones. He will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephew.
He was preceded in passing by his parents and step-father, Jim George; and siblings, Jim George and Patricia Wagner.
