Born April 2, 1933, in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Frank and Estella Miley, Priscilla (Polly) Miley Adams went home to our Lord God on November 30, 2022. Polly was blessed with two sisters, Elayne Victor (d. 2015) and Ruthann Wild. Her childhood shaped by the Great Depression and WWII, Polly developed strong values of perseverance, hard work, and making the most out of what she had. She also developed a lifelong commitment to doing for others. She learned to sew and knit at a young age; blessed with a sharp fashion sense and a love for beautiful things, she became an accomplished seamstress and knitter, making gorgeous clothes for herself, friends and family.
She graduated from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 1955. While at the U of M, she was an enthusiastic member of the Kappa Delta sorority and delighted in college life, especially attending football games. She never missed an opportunity to cheer on her beloved Wolverines! In 1959, she married Tom Adams, and they had two children, Peter (Teresa) Adams and Mary (Jon) King, whom they raised in St. Joseph, Michigan. Her sense of adventure was exemplified by her support for her husband’s love of boating, with decades spent exploring the Great Lakes. Polly volunteered her time to many organizations in St. Joseph, never saying no when her help was needed.
Polly delighted in her four grandchildren, Zach (Maria), Nathan, Julia and Xander, and great-granddaughter Aria. Nothing made Polly happier than being with her family, and she adored seeing them whenever possible, made easier when she moved to Carmel 25 years ago. Her children and grandchildren were her favorite topic of conversation, and she enthusiastically shared stories of their accomplishments and adventures with all. Having raised eight dogs over the years, Polly had an endless love for canine companions.
Clear-headed and feisty to the very end, Polly will be missed for her kind and supportive personality, her knack for listening and providing good advice, and her mischievous sense of humor. We will miss her terribly, but we’re glad she will finally be able to walk again, see friends and family who have gone before her, and play with her beloved dogs.
Services will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at 2PM in the Chapel at Cornerstone Lutheran Church in Carmel (4850 E. Main Street, Carmel, 46033).
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hamilton County Humane Society, the Indianapolis Humane Society, or Cornerstone Lutheran Church in Carmel.
