David Neil Silk, PhD passed away peacefully at Spring Hurst Health Campus, Greenfield, Indiana on August 10, 2023, at the age of 83. He was born November 20, 1939, in Morristown, New Jersey to Edward Silk and May Rosenburg. He received his bachelor’s degree from Patterson State College and his PhD in philosophy from University of Maryland. He served in the Army Reserves and was honorably discharged. His door was always open to his students at Goucher College and Indiana University where he retired in 2007.
He was most at home in nature. He loved long walks in state parks, fishing, and taking pictures of flowers which, he used as models for his watercolor paintings. He enjoyed woodworking, turning bowls, and other treasured items in which he took great pride. He taught himself to play guitar later in life and was involved in the Dulcimer Society. He formed his own groups: Off the Beaten Path and Biscuits and Bagels with many performances throughout the years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Margaret Silk (nee Davis); his sons Wayne N Massaro of Oakland Park, Florida, and Dr. Jeremy A Silk (Monica) of Monterey, California; two stepsons, Michael J Reed of London, Ontario, and James P Reed (Ashley) of Alexandria, Virginia; and his devoted sister and confidant, Marcia Rosenthal of Cleveland, Ohio. He is lovingly remembered by eight grandchildren, two nephews, four great nephews and two great nieces.
