Paul Foight Simpson finally relinquished his title of Stubborn Old Coot on December 10, 2021, just 6 days shy of his 86th birthday, which I’m sure displeased him quite a bit. Paul was born to Robert Steele Simpson Sr and Ruth Wilson (Foight) Simpson on December 16, 1935 in New Kensington, PA.
Paul attended Penn State before deciding to join the US Marine Corps. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. Out of the military, he worked for a bank which led to his training on the very early computer systems, where he excelled. This took him to Chicago, Illinois where he met the love of his life, Ann Rose Goodman. They were married in Kankakee, Illinois on June 18th, 1966. Together they had two daughters, lived in many towns across the Midwest, and loved to travel. They retired to Niles, MI and spent many wonderful years there in a home they built. Prior to retirement, Paul worked as Director of MIS at Wheelabrator Frye, RACO, and Bendix.
Paul loved to garden, growing spectacular ornamental grasses as well as brussels sprouts. He enjoyed his wife’s amazing cooking, especially Golumpki, Polish cabbage rolls. He loved tinkering with computers and later in life took up Sudoku, which he taught to local senior citizens.
After losing his wife, he sadly began showing signs of Alzheimer’s disease. He spent his final years in Indianapolis near his daughter at American Village.
Paul is survived by his daughters, Hope Simpson, son-in-law, Mike Berry and Meredith (Simpson) Kirschenman, son-in-law Roddy, grandsons Paul and Oscar.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother whom he adored, Robert Steele Simpson, and his wife Ann Rose (Goodman) Simpson, former OR nurse at Memorial Hospital SB.
Paul requested no services, instead asked for you to go share a great meal with your loved ones and hug them tight.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be sent to Alzheimer’s Association. Cremation Society of Indiana, 4115 S. Shelby Street Indianapolis, IN 46227 is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
