Stephen Dale Waggoner, 75, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away in the presence of his family on September 25, 2024. Born on July 4, 1949, to the late Noolen E. Waggoner and Eva M. Downey Waggoner, Stephen lived a life of devotion to his family, church, and community.
Stephen was a proud graduate of Arsenal Technical High School, Class of 1967, and spent the next 52 years working for DA Lubricant. In 1969, Stephen married the love of his life, Cathy Jane (Mock) Waggoner. Their marriage of 51 years was a testament to God’s grace, enduring through life’s joys and challenges until Cathy’s passing. Together, they raised four children in a home centered around faith, love, and service to others.
Stephen was a devoted Christian who lived his faith through action. A member of several churches, he faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher and volunteer for various church events. His passion for guiding and nurturing others extended beyond the church walls, as he was also a dedicated leader in the Boy Scouts of America, actively involved in his children’s lives through scouting.
Stephen’s love and legacy continue through his family, including his brother Mark S. (Lolita) Waggoner; his children Mark A. (Nyoka) Waggoner, Kevin P. Waggoner Sr., Jeanna M. (Tim) Waggoner Hart, Matthew R. (Josh) Waggoner, grandchildren Dannielle M. Waggoner, Kevin P. (Natalie) Waggoner II, Noah M. Ashcraft, Elijah S. Ashcraft, Eva G. Waggoner, great-grandchildren Rylan L. Titus and Ezra A. Titus.
He is now reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife Cathy and his parents, rejoicing in the presence of the Lord. Stephen’s sense of humor and love will be missed and continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of Stephen’s life will be held at a later time, honoring his faith and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Stephen’s name to the American Heart Foundation as a reflection of his lifelong dedication to service.
