Ronald Douglas Hedlund, age 93, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2025, in Columbus, Indiana. Born on July 8, 1931, in Buffalo, New York, Ron lived a long and fulfilling life marked by service, dedication, and adventure.
Ron proudly served in the United States Air Force as an Air Weatherman until his honorable discharge on October 31, 1955. Following his military service, he pursued higher education at Butler University and remained an active member of the Butler Alumni Association. He was also affiliated with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
A lifelong entrepreneur, Ron owned and operated Hedlund Hardware at 62nd Street and Keystone Avenue—a family business with a legacy spanning over 90 years. His commitment to the store reflected his strong work ethic and deep ties to the community.
Outside of work, Ron found joy on the water. He loved boating and spent countless hours exploring lakes across Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Florida. His adventurous spirit extended beyond the U.S., as he traveled extensively around the world.
Ron is survived by his beloved spouse, Mary Hedlund; his sons Michael (Jeanie), Timothy (Mary), Christopher (Theresa), Anthony (Kathy), Phillip, and Martin (Kelly) Hedlund; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and stepdaughters Tandace Joseph, Dee (Larry) Taylor, Robbi (Marlin) Horner, and Shaun (Joseph) Settle.
