I knew a guy in the sixties with this same name. He would visit the WIFE "Window on the World' studio on Meridian St. His partner in crime was a blond girl and the DJ, Joe Light, called them Ernie and Susie Cream Cheese. He walked with a limp. Could someone verify this info? We talked on the phone quite often. Would like to know if this is my old friend. Pattie

Roger was a dear friend. I agree with all comments about his abilities as a dispatcher. In stressful situations Roger was the calm voice on the radio not only knowing what was needed but had an uncanny ability to know your location. Countless troopers lives were saved. A special quality that separated him from others was Roger took time to care for family members (of troopers)when they would call him. In the mist of chaos if a family member called he took the time to meet their needs. He was truly an incredible person. Well done. Welcome home my good and faithful servant. He will be missed.

Roger was all things to everyone, teacher, friend, guide, character and sometimes- adversary…all cherished memories. Rest now Roger…
Rodger Popplewell left a message on October 8, 2025:
"Roger" was one of the most likable people I met on the department. I was blessed to work many, many details with him over our years together. Any special detail, Roger was volunteering for it. His knowledge of the department and the area far exceeded anyone else's. When Roger was at the helm you felt confident and sure of yourself, even as a young trooper. He was proactive and got things done. His goal for every shift he worked was "Everybody Goes Home"! Never a complaint I heard from him. An occasional funny joke or story he would share with you. The look on his face was priceless. He was a legend with me.

In my opinion, Roger was a great asset for the State Police. Despite life’s challenges, he did not complain. Roger‘s good spirit & deeds cannot be described by words. Rest in peace. Anonymously submitted.

I agree 100% with the other Dept members regarding Roger's expertise. He often helped me as I traveled through Dist. 52. His radio expertise was unmatched. What an asset he was to the Department. Bless you, Roger!

Bruce Canal left a message on October 8, 2025:
RIP Roger. He was always my "go to" for information. He knew who to call, who to talk to, when trying to solve an issue; like Google for the ISP. He also had amazing calm in times of crisis. Very committed to the ISP!
Brooks Wilson left a message on October 8, 2025:

Roger, you were the best!! As a former dispatcher at District 53 I was in awe of you. I met once. You knew and understood what was going on. Rest in peace.
Rick Hammer left a message on October 7, 2025:
Roger was one of the best, as a person, dispatcher, and friend. We spent many hours riding together when I transferred back to Indy. When I was PC and Roger was dispatching, I could go in and ask him to see where someone was and he would know without asking. He knew the troopers habits and listened to what was being said on 3-way. He was right every time I questioned him and asked him to go ahead and check. When he was behind the mic, Roger always had your back. RIP my friend.
Steve Banks left a message on October 7, 2025:

"Radio Roger" was one of the most dedicated employees the Indiana State Police ever had. If you cut his arm he would have bleed blue. Roger had a heart of gold and a wicked sense of humor. RIP Brother you paid your dues.
Jody Neal left a message on October 7, 2025:
Roger took great pride in his work and always knew what was going on in District 52 and surrounding Districts. He had the unfortunate task of training me as a dispatcher. I was a 19 year old kid that was totally out of my element being in the big city ! He took the time to train me and made me do the job right. Thank you Roger and God bless you.
John Hill left a message on October 7, 2025:
Roger was indeed great at his job, and it was a pleasure to work with him. When you talked with him you also knew he had a remarkable intellect and could discuss a lot of issues with him beyond law enforcement. The most striking thing to me was his dedication to co-workers, putting them ahead of his own interests.

Twice in my career as a dispatcher I felt validated. 1st time Roger called the Lafayette post to ask me a question about DataTrack… I knew the answer and immediately thought Boy if I can help Roger I have arrived. The 2nd time was when I was working dispatch at Indy. When he left the room and trusted me with “his” troops… I knew I was the real deal. His memory and mentorship will never be forgotten.
Shana Kennedy left a message on October 7, 2025:
I was one of many Troopers that worked with Roger while at ISP. We all knew he was "The Man" and he was the one we wanted on the other end of the radio when "sh*t" was hitting the fan. RIP Radio Roger and your legendary staus will never end.

"Time doesn't take away from friendship, nor does separation." Tennessee Williams I met Roger when I first started working in the Records Division in 1976. We became fast friends. We rode to work together, laughing on the way in and even harder on the way home. Roger, you were always such a good friend to me. We will see each other again. Your friend, always. Ricky Joe

Roger was the best. Working Boone County, we were generally on the fringe of reception. With Roger working dispatch we were never on the fringe of reception. Thank you Roger. God bless you.
Kathy Davies left a message on October 7, 2025:
An icon amongst ISP dispatchers! Any troop working an Indy detail or dispatcher that could monitor 42.42, knew this voice. He was THE voice of Dist 52. I remember being in awe listening to Roger dispatch two pursuits at one time - it was flawless and impressive. Rest in peace my friend, you have served ISP well! KSA764
Nila Miller-Cronk left a message on October 7, 2025:
My sincere condolences, I retired last year from ISP after 38 years. I first worked the road in Pendleton but lived in Hancock County which bordered the Indianapolis District at that time. Roger was the best dispatcher ever. He always made sure his Troopers were safe and if we got out of the car & didn't let Roger know we heard about it. He knew our voices & could tell if we needed help even if we didn't request it. I'm so sorry for your loss. Nila Miller-Cronk, Retired ISP Major

Roger was the best of the best. There was none better. If he was working the console your lifeline was secure. He was passionate for Troopers and those he worked with. Roger was a true professional. His passing marks the end of an era of the Indiana State Police.
Ed Reuter left a message on October 7, 2025:
Roger could multitask better than anyone I ever had the pleasure of working with. He not only took care of his Troops in District 52, but he was always on point to help the surrounding Districts. He was the best working the Command Bus during the Indy 500, always under control...prayers to his family and friends for his loss.

Man I hate to hear Roger is gone. I worked under him at D52 and he taught me so many things. Never a hard man to know. Roger was the man to get the job done right the first time despite any challenges he had. He called me “son” and it always made me feel important to him. I hope he went easy.
Jill Schmidt left a message on October 7, 2025:
I will always remember when Roger was starting to tell me story of his vast experiences with ISP. He would start out “Darlin” when we did things back in the day we didn’t use all these fancy computer gadgets. He taught me a lot when I started at 52 and I always listened and learned from the Master! God Speed Rog! 🥺💗🙏🏻

Roger? God must have needed a right hand man for all the "dispatches" up there .... comings of the likes of us and goings of the likes of the angels. You're the perfect man for the job. Say Hi to all the guys from 52 up there - Mike, Mark, Francis, Betty. With deep respect and warmest love.

Roger was District 52 in his early years and everyone knew exactly who was in charge - because HE was. He could handle multiple critical incidents at a time and addresses came second nature to him. He worked tirelessly to protect all of us - RIP Roger and as he always used to tell us “YOU ARE 10-8”
