Donald M. “Donnie” Smith, Sr. 75 years old, of Indianapolis, Indiana, suddenly passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025. He was born on July 7, 1949, in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Donald V. Smith and Sofia (Stanzione) Smith. Donnie was a self-made man who started his own small carpet installation business, then steadily worked his way up to become a supervisor for Cantrell’s building supplies, where he earned a great living to support his family. Donnie loved to go to the casino, watch cooking and decorating shows, and was constantly tinkering (remodeling rooms) around the house. He also loved to cook/bake for family and friends during holidays and gatherings. When he was younger, his favorite activity was traveling around the country with his late wife, Sandy, in their motor home. Donnie was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra K. “Sandy” Smith, his son Donald Michael “Mike” Smith Jr., parents, Donald V. And Sofia Smith, his brothers, Charles “Charlie” Smith, Edward “Arnie” Smith, his sister, Sophie “Dodo” Roberson. He leaves behind his daughter, Kelly Ann Smith, his sisters-in-law Katherine “Kathy” Thomas, Doris “Sue” Smith, Lori Watkins, and brothers-in-law, Robert Thomas and Tracy Watkins, his aunt, Charlotte Smith, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews, who he loved to pieces.
There will be a celebration of life gathering at a later date to appreciate a life well lived.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Cremation Society of Indiana.
