Charles “Bobby” Oliver Graves

April 4, 1936 - August 11, 2022

Charles Oliver ‘Bobby’ Graves, 86, of Indianapolis IN, went to his heavenly home on August 11, 2022, surrounded by his family after suffering from complications of a stroke.

Bobby was born on April 4, 1936 and left his Tennessee home at age 16 and moved to Indianapolis to find work to help support his family. He ‘worked’ at American Can Company from 1955-1979 in manufacturing where he held a management position. He then ‘played’ at Winding River Golf Course (Southwestway) as course greenskeeper until 2010. He was an avid golfer and wished to be remembered as “A darn good putter”.

Bobby was a sweet man who always had a kind word and showed his love best by providing for the people in his life. He had a handsome, infectious smile and lit up the room to the to the very end of his life. He loved being in warm weather at the golf course or at home on his deck and watching Westerns in his man cave.

Most importantly, Bobby knew and loved the Lord. He said he was saved when he was 12 years old at the altar of Fairfield Methodist Church in Westmoreland, Tennessee.

He will be missed dearly by his wife Joyce and her family, his daughters Laurie and Lindy and their families, and his Tennessee family, which includes his 10 brothers and sisters and their families.

Charles is survived by his wife Joyce Graves, daughters Laurie Graves (Don), Lindy Smith (Mike), grandchildren Zane Smith (Caitlin Maguire), Shea Volz (Nick), Jake Thompson, stepchildren Leslie Wilsey (Bob), Steve Stewart (Dia), Bill Stewart (Susan), Kathy Stewart, Sheryl Lesem (Don), Cindy Franz (John), siblings Betty King, Dixie Jones, Clyde Graves (Sue), Maxine Fortner, MaryLynn West (Doug), Reatha Trent, Rex Graves (Shirley), Richard Graves (Deborah), Benny Graves (Tillie), Tribby Briley (John).

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. at Fairfield United Methodist Church in Westmoreland, TN. Visitation will be at the church from 11:00 A.M until 1:00 P.M. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, August 26, 4:00 P.M.- 8:00 P.M. at Winding River Golf Course, 8015 Mann Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46221
