Brian Short

Brian Patrick Short, took his last breath on September 16, 2022 at the young age of 47, in the ICU at Eskenazi Hospital – Indianapolis, Indiana.  He was born on February 28, 1975 in Bradenton, Florida at Manatee Memorial Hospital.  The youngest of 2 siblings to Ralph H. Short Sr., and Gail K. Short.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Brian grew up in the Sarasota area, and embraced his ever so winding and complex road in life by the horns.  He was a man of many talents, a skilled laborer working with his hands and loved cooking.  He lived and worked in Sarasota, Venice, and North Port, Florida his whole life.  From his time at Eckerd Drugs photo lab, to self-employment as a laborer, he always gave 110%.  Brian’s brother Ralph Hugh Short, Jr. (California), stepmother Karen Brown-Short (Tennessee), his fiancé Missy White, and her son Tucker Cavin (Florida) are survived by him.

Brian was always the life of the party.  If you met him or knew him, you know that he was kind, gentle, fun, loved with passion and compassion.  Some of his greatest talents were cooking, dancing, gardening, drawing, photography, and painting, but he like many, struggled with mental health.  Having to deal with the loss of our mother to cancer of the lung in 1998, to more recently, our father to COVID in January 2022.  Brian loved animals, helping others, and mentoring youth; more recently, Tucker.  He always spoke highly of him.  Missy says they cooked together, grilled, talked, and she feels Brian helped Tucker to be a better, stronger young man.  We will miss him dearly but know that he is finally at peace.

A celebration of life will be held on  Friday October 21, 2022 at the Sea Turtle Pavilion, Siesta Beach.  948 Beach Road, Sarasota, FL  34242.  4 p.m., until 8 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family has asked you to consider donating in memoriam to one of the following non-profit organizations:
