Barbara Jean Brown, (wife, mother, and grandmother) was born October 2, 1934. She lived in Indianapolis, IN, and was the daughter of Mary and Petre Ilieff. She passed away on May 22, 2023, in her home.
Barbara grew up on the south side of Indianapolis, where she graduated from Manual High School. She lived most of her life on the east side of Indianapolis, where she raised her children.
Barbara had a passion for the arts and enjoyed listening to “all types” of music but mostly Jazz. She occasionally was invited to sing at some of the nightclubs around town.
She met her husband, Robert Wendel Brown (August 25, 1931-March 20, 2005) on a blind date. They were married for 50 years and had three children.
Barbara worked for the Fraternal Order of the Police for most of her life, prior to working at Hooks Credit Union as a loan officer. She retired from Hooks at the age of 63.
Barbara’s biggest joy in life was being a mother to her three children and grandmother to her four grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family, playing games, telling jokes, cooking delicious meals, and spoiling her dogs.
Barbara was an excellent cook and enjoyed sharing her talents with her loved ones. She loved animals and cared for many rescued dogs during her life.
Barbara will be deeply missed by her family. Her loving heart, one-of-a-kind sense of humor, and infectious laughter will always be remembered by all who knew her. Rest in peace, Nana.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Cindy Lee Benoit (John Benoit) and Diana Lynn Brown (Chris Kirby); son, Robert Michael Brown (Cheryl Brown); grandchildren Kristen Marie Benoit, Evan Michael Brown, Adam Jeffrey Benoit (Katie Benoit) and Rachel Kathleen Brown; great-grandchildren Lillian Estelle Jones, Bridgette Renee Benoit, Isabelle Avalon Benoit, Henry Isaac Benoit, and Roman Levon Jones.
