Corene Rickard passed away peacefully on March 1, 2020 in Indianapolis at the age of 74.
Corene’s story is one of love, humor, strength and perseverance. As she would say, she was born a coal miner’s daughter in 1945. Originally from West Virginia, Corene was daughter of Herman & Virtle Price and sister of Arlie Dale (Faye) Price. She was a graduate of Wayne County High School (West Virginia).
In 1965, after meeting through a mutual friend, Corene married Joseph M. Rickard who whisked her to Indianapolis. She remained resident of Indiana for the rest of her days. Joe and Corene proudly raised their two children, Jolyn (Bret) Prater, and Jay (Kevin) Rickard. Corene was aunt, great-aunt, cousin 2nd mom and friend of many. All miss her mischievous sense of humor, listening ear and protective nature.
Corene became an entrepreneur in Mooresville, IN where she provided unique fashions at Corene’s Boutique and rays of sunshine at Summertime Swimwear. She also was a respected Realtor in Morgan county where she was recognized for her skills and contributions as a leader. Corene built her real estate business into her own brokerage, Real Estate Professionals of Indiana. Matching individuals and families to their forever homes gave her great feelings of satisfaction.
At Corene’s wishes, there will be no funeral. She wants friends and family to gather in celebration to share memories and stories of life. A celebration of life will be held during warmer weather. Keep in touch with her children for information about the celebration place, date and time.
Corene had a heart for championing the underdog and standing up for those in need. Contributions to charity in Corene’s honor may be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention or World Vision.
