David Gardner Gibson was born on September 8, 1971, in Greencastle, Indiana, and passed away on March 2, 2022, in his home surrounded by family and friends. He joined a sibling and a son, and he is survived by his wife, Jenny Gibson; his parents: Darryl and Sharon Gibson; siblings: Jenny (Russ) Sorensen, Kelly (Monty) Beaman, Susan (Randy) Peck, Stephen Gibson and Emily (Justin) Mayville; his son: Damien (Brittney) Gibson, and three stepdaughters: Patience, Mia (Mark) and Emma; grandchildren: Silver, Aubrey, Elijah, Teegan, Sam and Onyx; 20 nieces and nephews, and 11 great-nephews and great-nieces.
David had an adventurous spirit. He was quick witted and openingly opinionated, loved learning, being in nature, and caring for animals. He lived a minimalistic lifestyle which allowed him to give back to his community, and on select Sundays, he would open his pizza shop and only serve free breadsticks. He had fundraisers for those in need and for schools in the community, and unbeknownst to all except a few close family members who witnessed this act of kindness, he would, at times, leave envelopes of money on porches of those in need.
He was an extremely hard worker, but once he became ill, he devoted all his time to be with family and friends. He especially enjoyed the time he spent together with his wife and granddaughter, Silver. The way David dealt with his illness was honorable and noteworthy, and while he fought to survive as long as he could, he accepted his impending death with grace. He never spent time feeling pity for himself, acknowledged how much more he needed to learn and improve on, and he looked forward to being reunited with others who passed before him.
He was most grateful for re-meeting his wife, Jenny. They were the only two babies born on September 8, 1971, in Putnam County Hospital. While they crossed paths many times (infant nursery at hospital, similar friends, same place of employment – different shifts, same apartment building – different sides), they never met until 2017. From that moment on, they were a couple. She re-entered his life to be his rock, his support, and his love when he needed it most.
David will be deeply missed by his family and close friends. He has chosen not to have services, and arrangements have been entrusted to The Cremation Society of Indiana. In lieu of flowers, please spend time with your loved ones.
