On January 28, 2022, Melinda Ann Gates departed this world, leaving family, friends and a husband that will love her always.
She was preceded in death by her father, William L., and mother, Ruth Ann (Roberts) Gates, and was born on January 17, 1952, in Princeton Indiana. Raised in South Bend, she attended Washington High School, where she excelled in theatre and dramatics.
Melinda attended Indiana University, where she earned a BA in the double major of Theatre and Psychology. Afterwards, she spent many years working for the State of Indiana, but then returned to school and earned a BS in Nursing from the University of Indianapolis.
She leaves behind a husband: John Walker; brother: L. William, and sister-in-law Sandy (Duxbury) Gates; niece: Alexa Gates; nephew: Graham; his wife: Olivia (Ganser), and their son: Freddy Gates; sister-in-arms: Pam Macer, and too many friends to mention.
Haggis, Pinch, Grayson, Larry, Andy, and Boo will miss her at the food bowl.
Melinda enjoyed performing and directing in Community Theatre, singing, sewing, gardening, reading, and fine dining with the occasional Negroni.
There will be a memorial service that will be held at a date, time, and place to be determined.
