Michael Wayne Baker, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away at his residence on Monday, October 25th, 2021. He was born on May 18th, 1949, at Major Hospital, to Harold and Betty Baker of Shelbyville, IN.
He graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1967, and joined the United States Army shortly after. He served in Vietnam as a Combat Communications Officer and received a Purple Heart award for merit.
After returning to Indiana, Michael became employed as an auto body instructor at Ivy Technological College then later worked as an auto body insurance claims estimator at Ray Skillman Auto Company. In 1975, he married his first wife, Rebecca Miller, whom he had two children: Tara and Christopher. Later on, Michael and Rebecca divorced.
In 2011, he was remarried to the love of his life, Susan Kay Maybaum then he retired a year later. Mike loved his little dog, Sadie Sue, was a long-time member of the American Legion, and a NASCAR enthusiast. He loved going to the Brickyard every year, was the proud owner of a custom restored, award-winning, 1982 Chevy Z28 Camaro, which was the official Indy 500 pace car. He was also a member of the Valley Mills Christian Church in Indianapolis, where he had organized two successful annual car shows.
