Margaret Jacquelyn Breker

August 5, 1936 - October 3, 2021

Margaret J. “Jackie” Delph Breker peacefully went to heaven Sunday, October 3, 2021 at the age of 85.  Jackie was born on August 5, 1936 to the late Boyd Manley and Dora (Stitt) Manley Spiker in Johnson County. She was raised on a farm, and often spoke fondly of her memories of farm life.

She married her first true love, Chelsea “Red” Delph, Jr. in 1954.  He preceded her in death in 1992.  She later married Lawrence “Larry” Breker in 1997.  He preceded her in death in 2009. Besides her parents and husbands, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Edythe Coy, her stepfather, Marshall Spiker, her son-in-law Gary W. Kunkel, and great-grandson Jacob Thurman.  She is survived by her son, C. Leroy Delph II (Lynn), daughter, Delisa “Dee” Kunkel (fiancé Martin Goodman), 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, her sister Pattsie Waltz, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She had a career as an accountant, for many years working at an Indianapolis law firm.  In later years she enjoyed writing stories and poetry, with many being published.  She was very proud to be given the “Poet of the Year Award” in 2015 by her publisher. She was always an animal lover, especially her cats.  She had a strong Christian faith and shared it through the way she lived her life.  She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in North Vernon before moving to Franklin.  She loved to sing hymns and gospel songs, especially “Because He Lives.”

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at the Church of the Bible, 211 Hamilton Ave., Franklin, IN.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jackie’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, Juvenile Diabetes Association, Johnson County Humane Society, or your favorite charity.
