Janice May Gessling, 86, passed away on December 20, 2020 at Greenwood, Indiana. She was the widow of her beloved Kurt Richard Gessling. They shared 43 years of marriage, and lived in Carmel, Shelbyville and Columbus Indiana during their life together.
Born in Niagara Falls, New York, she was the daughter of Valerian and Genevieve Pieta. A graduate of Niagara Falls High School, Mrs Gessling went on to earn her nursing degree after raising her family. She enjoyed helping others during her years working at Columbus Regional Hospital and the Koala Hospital and Counseling Center.
An avid gardener, reader and Indianapolis Colts/Indiana University Hoosiers/Butler Bulldogs fan, Mrs Gessling doted on her family. She is survived by her brother, Ronald (Lois) Pieta, cousin Frederick (Louise) Buja, children James P. Gessling, Lynn D. Gessling, Robert B. Gessling and Lori A. (Jonathan) Roberts, daughter-in-law Melodie Gessling and grandchildren Katharine, Emily, Christopher, Kristin and Jennifer. She was predeceased by sister Sharon (Jerry) Scavulli.
Mrs. Gessling will be interred with her husband at the Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus, Indiana in a private family ceremony.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
